Volunteers

Rainbow Kids volunteers serve as small group facilitators or site coordinators (the in-charge person at a host church).

Facilitator and coordinator trainings are offered twice per year.  Registration is required.

Volunteers must be adults (21 or older) who have a strong desire to help children or adults through a difficult time in their lives.

Volunteers must provide three personal references and undergo a background check.

Volunteer Facilitators will:

bulletHelp shape a participant’s self-image
bulletHelp shape a participant’s values
bulletProvide emotional support for the participant
bulletProvide some experiences a participant may not have had
bulletHelp each participant see that s/he is lovable just as s/he is

Qualities of a Facilitator:

bulletEnjoys working with the age group s/he is facilitating
bulletIs able to listen, communicate, and share self openly
bulletHas motives of love, concern, and profound respect for others
bulletIs a person who has found an identity in life
bulletCan accept negative emotion and tension without going to pieces
bulletKnows how to keep a confidence
bulletIs capable of working well with others

Responsibilities of a Volunteer:

bulletAttendance at an initial six-hour facilitator training session
bulletAttendance at additional training required for a Prism facilitator or site coordinator
bulletAttendance at inservice(s) provided by Rainbow Kids
bulletAvailability for the duration of the program for which s/he has volunteered
bulletParticipation in facilitator formation
